Forty Years Later

The first of my books to be published—Shelter from the Wind—came out in 1976, a full 40 years ago! You can read a bit more about my early days in publishing in this post called “Serendipity” on my “Just Thinking” blog. As I write there, “I knew little about the field I was trying to enter except that I had read a handful of Newbery Medal books and fallen in love with their fierce truth-telling.”Fortunately, because of a recently released edition, you and your students can also read Shelter from the Wind. How wonderful to find that my stories are still relevant to today’s young readers!
