Dreams Can Come True

When I was young, I longed

to know something,

anything.

I wanted to be able to speak,

to have someone listen

to what I knew.

But I knew nothing,

and I knew I knew nothing,

so I lived mostly

in silence.

When I was grown,

I found myself, one day,

standing before a vast audience,

speaking,

telling them what I knew.

Invited to be there,

speaking

because of the small thing I knew.

And even as I talked,

I remembered the girl

who longed to know …

something,

anything,

The girl who ached,

yearned,

pined

to be heard.

“Ah,” I said to myself,

without interrupting

the flow of words

I was being paid

to deliver,

“Dreams can come true!”
