I Used to Worry

I used to worry about birds

as I watched them

trundling through the blue.

They seemed to be working so hard,

pumping and pumping.

Especially the ducks,

pushing into a new season,

one   trailing    far     behind   the     V.

“Don’t leave her!”

my heart commanded

as I lifted my face to the sky.

“Please … don’t leave her!”

Still,

I longed to fly.
